CURIO
ART INSTALLATION
Originally commissioned by Bristol City Council, Illuminate Light Festival and funded by Arts Council England.
Location — Bristol, UK
Year — 2019
Status — Completed
A touring art installation in the form of a museum that displays objects of interest and value to residents of the neighborhood. Each object tells a resident’s story related to their idea of home.
The installation explores the idea of bringing domestic elements out into the public space through a series of reclaimed doors configured to create a structure that houses a small museum. Behind each door there is a cabinet of curiosities that represents the stories of the diverse community. Each door has a viewing device inviting passers by to look in and become part of the community represented within.
“It’s brilliant. There should be more stuff like this for young people. It’s not something you see every day.”
